George Takei finds British politics illogical …  Brexit was a disastrous mistake … every bit as bad as those who opposed it predicted … and getting worse … Nigel Garbage … a deluded and dangerous man … politicians lack imagination and have had very privileged lives … cannot understand what other people’s lives are like … Trump is a good example … worst President we ever had …  Takei feels despair at the lies told by politicians … He has raged magnificently against Brexit … Only Boris Johnson could make Thick Lizzie look competent … Thick Lizzie’s brief, miserable innings … 

The UK has a long term productivity problem. Since 2008 it has been running at less than a quarter of its usual rate. … the government has no idea how to improve things … the government seems to be deliberately making things worse instead of better … what the economy needs is a well functioning government, massive levels of investment, better training and far better management … investment has flat lined since Brexit … the government has slashed so many jobs that the accountancy profession complains the HM Revenue and Customs is so inefficient and understaffed that it is stifling the creating of companies;, jobs and wealth … we have had a tax dodging chancellor, a PM whose wife was a non-dom, billions of Covid loans that mysteriously disappeared, billions wasted on crony contracts for PPE … we have had Boris Johnson who could out bunga Sylvio Berlusconi … and we have had Thick Lizzie who makes corruption and incompetence look like a model of fiscal responsibility … the collapse of inward investment is extremely damaging, Britain is seen as too risky to invest in … stupidity over the Northern Ireland protocol … wasted resources, an economy that overheats easily …

UK is losing the race to be a leader in new technology .. Failing to ride the hi-tech wave of growth potential… If things were not bad enough for UK musicians in the EU they get worse by the minute in the USA … “

Michel Barnier

We are failing

Life long Tory voter Rod Stewart has just declared that the country is a mess and the Tories need to hand over power to someone more competent. This prompted me to think of the song he covered on his Atlantic Crossing album. Apologies for the lyrical changes which are occasionally grating !! 🙂

Brexit Britain 2023

Some will know that, in 2016, Britain voted to become an isolated country via the Brexit vote.  The marginal 52:48 popular vote was pumped up by:

  • Outlandish promises that we would fund our healthcare system with the proceeds of Brexit.
  • Brexit ‘freedoms’ from EU laws, 98% of which Britain helped to make.
  • The weaponisation of migrants ‘swarming’ into the UK, using the very same language used by the Nazis to justify the Holocaust.

It then took five years to leave our membership of the club we call the European Union, mostly because nobody in our Government could agree what Brexit meant.  Some wanted total isolation with free market capitalism on steroids, a kind of ‘Singapore on Thames’.  Others wished to retain all the benefits of trade and co-operation from Europe without any of the responsibilities of club membership.  The battle raged on between the various factions, consuming four Prime Ministers in the process, with our fifth currently sitting in the departure lounge.  Ultimately, it seems that Brexit consumes all its offspring.

Two years on from our departure, it is possible to see the beginnings of the realities of Brexit.  In this film, I have taken what could be described as a ‘Brexit Stock Take’.  This piece deals with the economic realities of Brexit.  Others in the series will deal with Social effects, Political futures, Legal outcomes, Environmental impacts and Technological effects.

Please take a look at the film and subscribe to our EU TUBE channel.  The film is 17 minutes long but well worth your time as a case study in populism which is sweeping Brazil, the USA, India, Russia and several other places.  Paradoxically, the world needs collaborative leadership and joined up thinking to face climate change and the many other global issues we must address if we are to survive.  Instead, many think that ‘strong men’ are the answers to such problems.  We shall see who prevails.

The recent news that Trump is under investigation is yet another point on the curve towards improved world leadership. To misquote the band name : Populism will eat itself !

In world that needs collaborative leadership to face complex problems such as climate change, famine, war, migration and so on, we seem to have opted for more didactic leaders with catchy but meaningless slogans.  In the UK we have Brexit populism.  In the US we have Trump’s version of isolationist politics, and so on.

This is why I coined the phrase ‘Brexorcism’ to change minds in the UK about Brexit.  The skills involved are just as applicable in other theatres of populism.

Last week, I was asked to speak on the need to turn back from populism and discuss the contributions from psychology, sociology and therapeutic approaches to wake people up to more long-term and global outlooks on our politics.  You can view the masterclass below.

I also spoke on the role of satire, humour and catharsis as a way into the most closed minds on political issues, based on our book Private Eyelines.

Brexit and WW III

My sister is some 20 years my senior at 80 years old. Living in Tonbridge, I have to say somewhat unkindly that she is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. But she is a faithful Daily Mail reader and does the best she can to absorb current affairs through the lens of the Brexit Gutterpress. She has over the years come out with some startling revelations about Brexit. For example, she voted for Brexit because she believed that two million German / Turkish rapists were to come to Tonbridge. She did not want the imposition of Sharia law on the high street. Needless to say she is a fairly hard case for Brexorcism. Bearing in mind this background and her general intelligence levels, I set myself the task of explaining how Brexit was instrumental in destabilising Europe and how Putin’s invasion of Ukraine is part of a long range strategy by Russia to undermine the most successful peace project in the world. She laughed at me, as did a lot of Brexit Voters at the time, when we said that Brexit might precipitate World War III. Here we are on the precipice of Brexit and WW III. I’ll begin very simply with a Twitter thread which has seen 50 000 views at the time of writing.

Taking it one step at a time for my sister, Boris Johnson and anyone else hard of hearing and understanding:

It is a FACT that Russian money was used to pervert the Brexit vote. Had it been anything but advisory, it would have been declared NULL and VOID.

Aaron Banks donated £8 million to bankroll the vote leave campaign. This is an unprecedented amount.

In case you forgot, read up on Cambridge Analytica, Carole Cadwalladr’s work and The Russia Report.

It is a FACT that there are significant ties between the hard right (and quite possibly the hard left) via The Brexit Party, Aaron Banks, the ERG and the Conservative party with Russian money.

Putin got his way when Brexit was voted for. This was an important moment in his ideological battle to leaven unity in Europe.

He has also been injecting support into some eastern European states to destabilise the situation.

It also serves Putin’s agenda to distract his citizens from the COVID crisis in Russia.

With the bond between Britain and the EU weakened he is now able to enact the next stage of his strategy.

Boris Johnson has been unable to act on the problem, due to the need to pander to his ERG and Russian masters. Even Tom Tugendhat commented that we failed to step up to the plate in 2021 by placing hardware in the Black Sea. Our obsession with getting Brexit done, the need to obey Tory Russian masters and a low appetite to work with Europe after Brexit are plausible explanations of our reticence on the matter.

The EU, US and the rest of the world see the posturing of Boris Johnson and Liz Truss as utterly pathetic. Putin knows this and has actively facilitated this.

Ukraine is in the process of joining the EU. Perhaps this helps to explain some context.

This is an incredibly short post to ask you to do whatever it takes to get the democrat vote out on Tuesday and find any means, fair or foul to incarcerate Trump voters on election day. In short, we need to Dump Trump. I won’t make the arguments here as I’m sure most people are both familiar and bored with them. I am also aware that there are issues on both sides of US politics. However, as always in these matters, voting is a choice between lesser evils rather than ideals. Here’s two resources you can use to Dump Trump:

In case you are wondering about the relevance of this in an anti-Brexit platform, a Biden government will give Johnson no place to go in Brexit negotiations. If the Good Friday agreement is threatened, we can also expect a vigorous reaction against the UK’s Brexit illusions by the Biden administration.
